Founder members Danielle Richards and Rupert Parry met while studying theatre at college. It was there that they discovered their shared passion for improvised comedy and artistic spectacle. As a result, in 2001, they formed The Flying Buttresses.
They quickly made a name for themselves at the Glastonbury Festival in 2002. Their unique blend of illusion and heart-warming characters, particularly ‘Hodman and Sally,’ instantly won them a large and enthusiastic following.
Since then, their iconic acts, including ‘Hodman and Sally’ and ‘Pongo,’ have continued to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences worldwide. Furthermore, their latest show, ‘What the Tortoise Taught Us,’ is revolutionizing the world of street theatre. The show features a stunning giant walking robot tortoise, named Zelva. This beautiful, realistic, animatronic creature is currently captivating audiences and taking the world by storm.
The company is dedicated to maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Not only do they excel in their puppetry and comic performances, but they also focus on the visual and technical aspects of each show. This dedication is further enhanced by Rupert and Danielle’s backgrounds as professional special effects artists. As a result, they create characters, creatures, and costumes of exceptional quality, using the most advanced materials and techniques available in the industry.
Additionally, they have worked both independently and collaboratively for prestigious companies. Their experience includes collaborations with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Jim Henson Company, as well as filmmakers Tim Burton and Ridley Scott.
